Entertainment / Media / Sports

Welcome to Fordham University Gabelli School of Business’ Entertainment, Media & Sports Community! Here you’ll find resources such as blogs, events, and resources specific to all things “media related” to help you embrace your career and academic journey and explore Fordham’s career resources in one central space.

Entertainment and Media are broad industries that that include information/entertainment (film, print, radio, TV, new media), sports, news and advertising. The top 10 media and entertainment companies are The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, Direct Group Holdings (DIRECTV), Time Warner Inc., NBC Universal, National Amusements Inc., CBS Corporation, Viacom Inc., News Corporation, and TEGNA Inc. The U.S. media and entertainment industry contributes more than $632 billion to the economy and represents a third of the global industry.

Career opportunities in this industry can take a variety of forms, with MBA/business roles in many functions including Marketing, Accounting, Finance and project management –as an MBA/graduate business student, you will be much more business person than entertainer. Being passionate about your job and the field is welcome here.

Many consider this a glamorous field, so there are far more job candidates than there are jobs to fill so entry level salaries may be low and graduate degrees, including MBAs, are not required. On the positive side, with increased skill and experience comes more responsibility and higher wages.
